- You'll get weird duplicates and glitches if you do it while the spotify app is running. Open spotify again. In your case I'd move the mp3 file out of the folder w/ spotify closed, open spotify make sure the local files tab updates and it is no longer present, then close spotify, edit the track to add the artwork, then.
- The mediacontentid value can be obtained from the Spotify desktop app by clicking on the more options (””) next to the album art picture, selecting “Share” and then “Copy Spotify URI” or “Copy Playlist Link” (also available in the Spotify phone and web app).
Without swaying too far from the original Spotify player I wanted to bring more emphasis on artist expression. Gift card spotify free. The current player already pulls through a slight gradient from the album artwork colours, but it's quite dull in most cases.
Alongside the gradient, the heart and progress bar could be themed by the artist to compliment the album art, bringing a more personal touch.

The only UX change I made was to bring the overflow 'kebab' menu and the return arrow down from the top. From a familiarity standpoint the top makes sense, but they're very difficult to reach now that smartphone screens are exceeding 6' displays.
Matt MacPhersonCreate your very own Spotify acrylic album covers. You choose the artist, song, and image and your song will automatically play when scanned in the Spotify app! Also known as glass albums, (as seen on Tik Tok) your design prints on shatter-resistant clear acrylic. The high-quality and high-gloss finish mimics the look and feel of glass. Spinnr. App
Spinnr. is a startup company. Their app uses Google's image search and Spotify's API. The user takes a photo of the album cover and then has the option to listen to it in Spotify, to add it to their digital collection or to buy it on Amazon.
- My Role: Lead UX Researcher, User Advocate, Designer, Iterator, Prototyper, Usability Tester, Presenter
- Goal: To utilize user research and design app screens album collectors find frictionless
- Surprise findings: After a lot of user research, we found the users valued community, nostalgia, organization, and exploration. We also found users didn't need a lot of features in their app, they needed an app that simply met their need to hear the album songs and organize their collection.
- What we did: Removed the features users didn't need for the basic app function. We removed the community page, and chat feature, and we made an MVP.
- Users could then quickly learn the patterns, and the developer may implement the design quicker and easier.
- Client: Matt Steffey, CEO Spinnr.
- Deliverables: Sketches, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and an MVP Prototype and future feature screens
- Tools: Sketch, Zeplin, InVision
- Team: Michael Boyer, Joy Micek
Qualitative and Quantitative:
• Surveys on social media at the start of the project to extract relevant users
• User interviews
• Stakeholders interviews throughout the design
• Card sorting for button/menu wording, and app architecture
• Contextual interviews
• Task analysis
• Competitive analysis both in and out of the music industry
• A/B Testing of button placement and content verbiage
• Ethnographic field studies at record stores and people's homes
• Usability Testing of lo-fi and high-fi prototypes

7 User Interviews | 322 Answers
- We found our users at record stores and through a targeted social media inquiry. Our goal was to ask questions to understand what users' goals and needs were fulfilled through record collecting.
- Beginner Collectors
- Experts
- Record Store Employees
- Owners
- Guiding Questions:
- Why do you collect records?
- How would you describe the vinyl collecting culture?
- Tell me about your collections.
- If you had a record collection magic wand, what would you do?
- Tell me about your favorite childhood memory involving records.
A Project Challenge:
When my design group would have a difference of opinion, they would both and ask me to make the deciding vote.I would ask back, 'Which approach would benefit the user?' 'Which approach does the user need or works without frustration? Which design solution was backed by research? Which design solves the users' pain points?'
Based on interviews, we narrowed down two user types:
Rookie Rosie
' I don't like clerks who roll their eyes, like you're out of your mind.'
Age: 23
Occupation: Barista
Rosie wants to listen to unfamiliar albums but is intimidated by record store staff and listening stations. She feels a barrier to entering the community.
Goals:
• Wants to explore new music
• Wants to be part of the vinyl community
• Wants music suggestions
• Wants to share music with friends
Frustrations:
• She is intimidated by listening stations
• She gets rattled by record store staff
• She feels a barrier to entering the vinyl community
Hard-Core Harry
'When something is from the '50's, '60's, or '70's, you're holding a piece of history. It wasn't made a few months ago.'
Age: 70
Occupation: Retired Engineer/Current Disc Jockey

Affinity Mapping - 163 Post-It Notes
Helped to categorize:
• The album collection process
• Community
• What users love about album collecting
Defining:
From user research we found 4 guiding principles:
• Exploration - Users want to find/listen to new albums
• Organization - Users wanted to organize their digital collection
• Community - Users wanted to share their love of albums
• Nostalgia - Users wanted to collect music memories
Solutions:
• We added a camera screen for album scans to Spotify Exploration
• We added methods of album Organization as alphabetical or by genre
• We added Community in an album sharing feature
Download spotify list to usb. • We added Nostalgia in a notes feature
High Fidelity Mockups
• Follow others
• See their digital album collection
• See their notes
• Add tags for classification
Prototype Testing
Users were guided through flows defined by the user journeys. Progress was tested by contextual research watching user's expression, and listening to their monologue throughout the test.
Scenarios users were given:
- You are at a record store and you want to listen to the sealed album
- You are at home and you want to add a record to your digital collection
- You want to follow someone in the album community
Takeaways
- Too Many Features for a new app!
- Remove community links for now
- Pair it down to an MVP
Wrong Feature Placement
• We moved the important 'I Own This Album' checkbox from above the album to an understandable location near the other CTA buttons Buy on Amazon and Listen in Spotify
Verbiage Not Clear To User
• Users thought they would remain on the app when they hit the buy button, they didn't understand it would take them to Amazon
• Users thought they were listening on the app. They didn't understand it would take them to their Spotify account
UI Design
We followed Matt's Spinnr. branding
- We used the color palatte in the app
- We used the Spinnr. logo
Spotify App Organize Music By Album Art Color Chart
- Spinnr. owner, Matt, gave us free reign to design the screens
- Biggest fear was the expansiveness of the project
- We wanted the user to be delighted with the app, but we found that giving users all possible features doesn't promote usability
- Users want it to simply work every time
- We overcame the feature bloat by pairing it down to an MVP
- After initial development goes smoothly and the users understood the patterns,Matt can implement our high-fidelity screens incorporating the social aspect of album collecting.
Spotify App Organize Music By Album Art Color Pages
- Matt will develop the MVP
- A Kickstarter campaign will start and those original contributors will have a special K badge added to their profile, deliniating they backed the company from the start
- A scanning service for record store owners
- After the MVP is solidified, the community features will be added
'Sitting with this team, talking through everything I could do, I was overwhelmed and this team helped make it clear and figure it out. Being able to narrow it down to the MVP,
